Local veterans honored during Hampton Heroes program

The Hampton Heroes program, hosted by Hampton Middle School, was held Tuesday, Nov. 9, outside at Fridley Field. This year, nine Hampton Heroes were inducted into the program that honors and recognizes local veterans for their service.

The service included performances by the Middle School band, chorus, and orchestra. The High School Marching Band also performed “Thank You,” a show designed to remember, honor, and show gratitude towards veterans, active-duty military, and their families.

Guest speaker Eric McElvenny shared his amazing story that inspired us all. Mr. McElvenny served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and was wounded after stepping on an IED. Recovering from the amputation of his right leg below the knee, he set a goal and completed an Ironman Triathlon and now competes in endurance racing events across the country. He travels around to speak, inspire, and motivate others to grow from their challenges. He recently returned from Tokyo where he competed in the Paralympics.
